Underated ps3 games

In many ways, a throwback to classic games with a fresh coat of paint, Vanquish features a ridiculous story with huge set pieces and nonstop action full of sliding boosts and slow-motion shooting. The biggest downside of Vanquish is its length. The biggest draw is, of course, the improved HD graphics, making the world of Santa Destroy look better than ever.

Controls no longer require the trademark Wii-mote waggle, unless you choose to use the PlayStation Move controllers. A few bosses from the Wii exclusive sequel have been thrown into the mix as well.

The final Yakuza game of the last generation is easily the best, featuring five cities, five main characters, and a ridiculous number of minigames in a recreation of Japan. The main issue with Yakuza 5 is that it requires familiarity with the previous games, so you might want to check those out first. But more Yakuza is never a bad thing. Despite the confusing title, this is actually the fourth sequel to the beloved Disgaea: Hour of Darkness released a decade earlier.

While those other games kept the same strategy RPG gameplay, they ditched the story of Laharl, prince of the underworld. The story is still King of all Cosmos insanity. The soundtrack is still weird and amazing. If you want the ultimate Katamari experience, this is the way to go. Development was led by Yoshiki Okamoto, a respected veteran of both Capcom and Konami. The story focused on aspects of Celtic mythology, rarely seen in games.

The gameplay, exploring two different worlds with two very different characters, was expertly crafted. But for whatever reason, gamers pretty much ignored Folklore. Sony considered a sequel but refused to officially greenlight it. Game Republic went on to develop the similarly underrated Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom but was forced to shut down soon after. This is also one of the few games of the last generation to have a substantial difference between the PS3 and Xbox versions.

Other than that, the games play identically. The gameplay is classic 2D platforming, but you play as a puppet who has his head cut off at the beginning of the game, so you go around collecting different heads you can hold up to three at a time to gain new abilities and make your way through stages, each of which is presented as a play.

With its quirky gameplay, Puppeteer never stood a chance of getting mainstream attention, and even Sony seems to have completely forgotten about the title. The Motorstorm series served Sony well during the PS3 era, but Apocalypse might have changed the tried and true formula a bit too much. Apocalypse changed the setting from deserts and forests to a beautifully dilapidated urban area and added tons of new vehicles, including supercars and choppers.

Despite its impressive graphics and a simple but fun story mode, Apocalypse was true to its name and signaled the end of the franchise so far at least. But it would be hard to complain about a new game in 4K or even a remaster. Heavenly Sword could have become an all-time classic but was held back by a few hiccups. The voice acting, featuring the inimitable Andy Serkis, is a high point and the combat is an absolute pleasure.

Ten years on, the game still looks fantastic. But some annoying boss fights, poor puzzles, and a short runtime keep Heavenly Sword from being too fondly remembered. At one point, a trilogy of games was planned, but that never came to fruition, and even if the series were to continue, it would probably be with a new developer at the helm.

We complain about dumb shooters with cliche stories like Call of Duty , but that series continues to sell millions. I highly reccomend this game even though its only 6 hours long. The other titles either received way too much acclaim to even come close to being considered underrated, or simply deserved the criticisms they received.

That's just my opinion of course. Whoever said Heavenly Sword, I definitely agree. It was a short game, but the experience was pretty epic. Actually it hasn't sold very well. It's very disappointing; it wasn't even on the top 10 downloads I seem to remember. Considering it's one of my top titles for PS3 I'd say that's a shame. Wipeout HD has been criminally ignored, in my opinion. RC TOD is the best platformer by far. Even better than Jak 1 and 3 for me. Zone is crazy awesome, i love to colours mixed with my amazing custom soundtrack, it's like an acid trip.

It's really hard though i can still only get to zone I get to 75 eventually. Wipeout HD is an amazing game. It honestly wasn't THAT hard.

I had never played a wipeout game before and i was able to be EVERY single race on elite difficulty eventually. You just need patience and determination that's all. Although now since they patched it it's ok for all the little children to be able to beat it with much less effort. I don't think that Gears 2 was run and gun.. PS3 playstationgameruk. The story is too old to be commented. Hallucinate d ago you guys must not of play valkryia chronicals, VC should been number 1 Agree 0 Disagree 1.

Scenario is a crap, the game is ultra-repetitive, the gameplay is not challenging at all and it is short, as collecting all flags and killing all crusaders are pretty useless Agree 4 Disagree 0.

This is a tribute to those PS3 games that fell by the wayside and deserve better. Dejected and forgotten, they'll cost you next to nothing, yet deliver memorable experiences that are in some cases among the very best the console has to offer.

These unsung, underrated games deserve a place on your console - will you give it to them? Robert Zak Contributor.
